Christine New York, NY United States Female Living with AML for 12 years, 8 months Age: 29
On the evening of Feb. 9, 2001, I gave birth to our first son, Shane. Four days later I was still in the hospital running a high fever. The doctors thought this was due to an infection related to my C-section. Routine blood work revealed the truth. On Feb. 14, I was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML).
I have now gone through five months of chemotherapy and am in remission. Shane is a happy, healthy baby who seems ready to run around the world. I am alive today because of leukemia research. My husband and I can not say enough about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and everything they do to help cure this disease. The support they have given us has been extremely helpful. Now my husband is participating in Team In Training and plans to run the Walt Disney World Marathon in Orlando. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is truly a great organization.
