Living with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for 45 years, 6 months
Age: 57

In 1965, at the age of 13, I was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma - now known as Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Back in the 60's chemotherapy was totally experimental and used only as an "as necessary" supplemental treatment to what was then called "Cobalt treatments" (Radiation therapy.) The area radiated was isolated by positioning lead blocks of different sizes on a plate of glass which was suspended above the site. The lead was in-turn aligned with the black magic marker guidelines drawn on your skin. I had quite a design of x's and dashes on my neck.

It wasn't until 15 years later that I learned that survivors of this disease from the 60's were so few that by the 80's most health care professionals had never met, but only read about "us" in textbooks.

Thirty-eight years after the diagnosis I can say that there will never be enough words of thanks to everyone (family, medical, spiritual) who were involved in my successful recovery.

I'm amazed to hear and read about how much advancement there has been in the diagnosis, treatment, and cure of this disease. I'm sure that organizations such as yours had more to do with it than I will ever know.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share. Pam
