Phillip Andrew Colominas Miami, FL United States male Living with ALL for 14 years, 2 months Age: 17
This is a story is about HOPE and HAPPY ENDINGS.
My son, Phillip, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in July 1996 when he was only 3-years old. As a mother, I can still not put into words the pain and fear that I felt on that day, and for many more days to come. Phillip was been blessed with a wonderful doctor named Doured Daghistani, who said from the beginning that Phillip was a " textbook case.Ħħ
On Aug. 26, after completing induction therapy, we learned that Phillip was in a remission and his marrow was coming back strong and healthy. On January 29, 1999, he completed his treatment. Believe it or not, this only brought more fear into my life. What would protect him now? Day by day, life became somewhat normal again and my fear became less and less. Then, after seven and one half years, the day I had been waiting for finally arrived. On January 28, 2004, five years after treatment was completed, Phillip was declared "cured" by his beloved doctor.
Phillip is 11-years old and going into the Sixth grade. He is an honor student and very active in sports. Phillip plays 3rd base and is a closing pitcher. He wants to be a marine biologist! MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!
To honor my son this year, I am forming a team of family and friends to participate in the "Light the Night Walk". What better way to honor him than to raise money to fight this horrible disease that affects so many children?
I hope that by sharing Phillip's story, I can give hope and take away a little of the fear that other mothers feel.
