Living with cancer has been a very special part of my life since my diagnosis of high grade Large B-Cell Diffuse Lymphoma in January 1999. After undergoing six rounds of CHOP therapy and 20 days radiation, I was anxious to get on with my life. Needless to say, it was quite a journey with multiple hospitalizations and blood transfusions along the way. At the time we lived on a small barrier island off the coast of North Carolina so all my medical treatments and doctor visits required us to go to the mainland and travel approximately one hour to the city.
In May of this year, I found that I have relapsed and am preparing to complete my third five-day round of Fludara and Rituxan. I've experienced side effects that bypassed me last time and fatigue plays a major part in my days. I still have a very positive attitude though, and know that I am going to be all right.
During my 1999 journey, I kept a journal that explains my attitude and how and why I knew that I would be all right. Will I need to add a second chapter? I don't know, because I didn't think I would write the first journal but was compelled to keep some sort of record as my treatment progressed. Whatever God wants me to do, I will follow Him.
