Carla New York, NY United States Female Living with AML for 9 years, 2 months Age: 46
I was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) on July 6, 2001. The diagnosis came as quite a surprise as I
was working - although feeling very ill - until the day before.
I was immediately admitted into hospital and started on induction therapy. My family and friends took care of me, and I knew many, many people were sending me their good thoughts and prayers. All of the medical staff was caring and knowledgeable, and I always felt safe.
We knew through the biopsy that my leukemia was in remission on July 24. I go back into the hospital in two days. I am nervous, but I know I will have great care, and I know the success rate is high. I believe I will do well.
It is an amazing thing, to put it all together so quickly, and to be so
well taken care of. Have faith!!
