Laurie Austin, TX United States Female Living with Hodgkin Lymphoma for 14 years, 4 months Age: 48
I am celebrating my anniversary: It's been five years since I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease.
In May of 1996, I was diagnosed at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. I had chemo and six weeks of radiation. I was lucky.
They cured my cancer, and they let me go home. Since my recovery, I feel like I've had my life returned to me. I have a full-time job, two children, a husband and many activities. As a matter of fact, I even had my second child (he's now 2-and-a-half) during this time.
I am thinking about running a half-marathon (maybe even a full marathon!) for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to celebrate five years of recovery and my 40th birthday. I'd also like to raise money for continued research. I feel very fortunate, and I'd like to be able to give something back.
